Florida Power & Light

Florida Power & Light is a utility company in south Florida known for having one of the most reliable electricity grids in the United States. They are also a very forward-thinking utility company with respect to their web application and customer experience.

While working with Fjord in 2015-2016, FPL contracted us to redesign their entire application to be cleaner and more consistent. I specifically worked on the "Report Power Outage" and "Bill Pay" experiences.

OBJECTIVES
  • Allow FPL users to report power outages from their phone or other device, ensuring authentication through various routes and ensuring all possible scenarios are covered
  • Allow FPL users to pay their bills from their phone or other device, as well as enroll in automatic bill payment and budget billing
KEY RESULTS
  • Components were progessively launched from 2015-2017 serving 4.6 million customers
  • FPL has since won numerous awards for their customer experience and won the 2019 ReliabilityOne™ National Reliability Excellence Award

MOTION EXPLORATION

In some cases users may need to check that if they are recieving power from FPL. This process may take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, so there was an opportunity to design a simple animation to let the user know something is happening.
